Absolutely agree! With Project 25, they’re stopping readers from reading what they want like romance novels with mature content and LGBTQ books.

yup! any LGBTQ book would be categorized as “pornography” which is just so absurd

i had to read this as soon as i saw the title. i recently wrote an article on the atrocious SJM which you mention in your piece and couldn't agree more with you: reading is intensely political. even the smut books. SJM shares terrible ideas in her novels, just like hunger games is a masterpiece against the rise of dictatorship (yes even a ballad of songbird and snake). i loved the first legendborn book (ashamed to say i haven't read the second one) but saying reading isn't political yet reading political fantasy makes no sense. reading romance and saying it's not political makes no sense when the relationship between characters shows power balances which are political; sex is always political etc. couldn't agree more, i wish this piece was longer and you went into more details of your favorite books ngl, maybe a part two in the works??? much love <3

tysm for your comment!! it is so baffling to me that people on booktok will read the hunger games and then turn around and say “books aren’t political” like I’m sorry, did we read the same thing?? and I would even argue that romance is one of the most political genres out there lol. (the second legendborn book is amazing!!! hope you love it!🤭) I would love going more into my faves you just gave me a great idea 😌 haha ty! and I will def look into that SJM post, can never skip out on an SJM critique/bashing

hunger games is my favorite series of all time, it's absolute genuis and would never get over it. i need to reread all the books and prepare for the fifth one and plan on making a deep dive on the books soonish but jesus christ there's so much to say it's so educational. i swear when i get back into uni to become a literature teacher i can't wait to make the kids study the hunger games. it's fun, it's political, it's historical and mythological, it's got everything for kids to enjoy and adults too, it's incredible and couldn't love it more. percy jackson is also amazing ngl, rick riordan is the perfect example of how to be online as an author and has learned a lot from his community and beta readers. i hope this idea comes to fruition and can't wait to read you write more on the subject with your poli-sci education and everything it's bound to be amazing!! genuinely enjoying talking to you ngl can't believe we haven't done this before

oh i didn't even know the newest one was about propaganda, i had no idea about its focus apart from Haymitch and i kinda love not knowing anything she's going to throw at us until it's out, but mark my words, that book will be in my hands the day of its release <333
